Keywords: Gently Soothes
If you delight in the sweet, refreshing scent of citrus then you will love Red Mandarin oil. It is sweet, warm, and faintly floral, reminiscent of Neroli, and orange blossoms. A descendant of the indigenous fruit from South China Red Mandarin is also a European ancestor to the American Tangerine. A dark citrus oil Red Mandarin is deep orange or almost red in color, and acts to soothe and balance the heart energy center.
Although its aroma is much more complex and multi-layered Red Mandarin has similar actions and uses as Tangerine, and is often used interchangeably in aromatherapy blends.
Children love the warm, sweet aroma of Mandarin oil. It is very gentle and may be used with young children and during pregnancy, and often used by midwives in the birthing room. Mandarin calms the nervous system, and its pronounced relaxing properties make it effective for soothing restlessness, and hyperactivity in children.
Mandarin essential oil is effective for relieving insomnia, and is being used in hospitals, and medical centers throughout the U.S. as a calming agent, and has been found useful for alleviating nausea, similar in action as ginger and peppermint pure essential oils.
Red Mandarin's antiseptic action makes it useful as a room spray, try it in a blend with other citrus oils, lavender and ylang ylang!
CAUTION: Though Mandarin is helpful for treating dry skin conditions care should be taken when using it in skin applications as it is mildly phototoxic, please avoid exposure to direct sunlight or sunlamps for up to 3 hours after use as pigmentation of the skin may result.
BLEND WITH: Clary Sage, Geranium, Lavender, Sandalwood, Vetiver and Ylang Ylang

Melissa ( Melissa officianalis )
Balm of the Heart's Delight!
Keywords: Openness, Gratitude, Heart Wisdom, Grace
Melissa oil gently soothes the Mind, Body, and Emotions.
Melissa oil, distilled from the common Lemon Balm, is captivatingly sweet, fresh, lemony aroma with a faint and pleasing earthy note. The aroma is characteristically fresh and clean, not medicinal or citronella murky.
The yield of Melissa oil with steam distillations is low, and can be under a tenth of a percent. It takes approximately THREE tons of plant material to yield 1/2 kilo of the pure essential oil. Also very few distillations are even attempted thus the high cost of this rare herbal essential oil. Most of the Melissa oil found in the commercial marketplace are adulterations with Lemongrass and Citronella.
Melissa essential oil has powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties. It has been used effectively for treating herpes lesions. It may useful for treating various infectious diseases such as flu virus, smallpox and mumps.
Robert Tisserand's research indicates that Melissa blended with Rose Otto is an effective treatment against shingles and cold sores. He recommends it neat for adults to treat cold sores. As it is a strong skin irritant a dilution is advised.
Melissa is often recommended for relieving nausea and indigestion, especially when associated with nervous tension. It has been used in tacchycardia to slow the heart beat, and relieve palpitations. Melissa may also be useful for lowering blood pressure.
Dementia agitation may be relieved with Melissa oil. A recent study cited in the Journal of Complimentary Medicine reported Melissa oil to be a safe and effective treatment for the management of agitation in severe dementia. The study indicated that true pure Melissa oil significantly reduced agitation and enhanced quality of life.
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) study of patients with mild to moderate symptoms using Melissa herbal essential oil experienced significant benefits in cognition after 16 weeks of treatment.
Emotionally, Melissa's delightfully fresh scent may ameliorate anger and help to restore the heart's natural rhythm of giving and receiving, allowing and accepting. A regulator, depending on the circumstances for which it is used, Melissa is both calming and uplifting. A mild sedative in small doses use Melissa to help calm fear and anxiety.
Melissa may also be helpful for integrating overwhelming feelings like shock, grief, terror and rage. Blend Melissa with Frankincense to enhance its affect for letting go, acceptance and depth of understanding. As with Helichrysum oil Melissa may help resolve past emotional trauma associated with early childhood memories, or unconscious ancestral patterns.
CAUTION: Use Melissa in very low dilutions of 1-2%, or less, as it is a strong skin irritant.

Aromatherapy Safety Guidelines
These Guidelines Have Been Approved by a Member of the NAHA Safety Committee
Always dilute your essential oils for Safe Skin Application.
Use a cold processed, unfiltered, or naturally filtered vegetable oil like light coconut oil or jojoba to dilute your essential oils. Stop using essential oils immediately if there is any skin irritation.
When using a pure, undiluted essential oil for inhalation always keep a bottle of carrier oil, such as jojoba, handy. If oil comes in contact with your skin dilute immediately with your carrier oil to avoid discomfort, or possible skin irritation. Keep undiluted oils out of the reach of children!
Keep bottles of essential oils tightly closed and store in a cool location away from light. If stored properly, unclosed essential oils will maintain their potency for years. Except for quicker evaporating citrus oils, conifers and firs (Pine, Spruce, etc.) which have a shorter shelf life because of oxidation which causes them to lose any antiseptic qualities.
Essential oils should be used sparingly. Remember one drop equals one to four cups or more of dried plant matter. Never smell essential oils straight out of the bottle.
AROMA FACT: Did you know that it takes about thirty roses to produce one drop of Rose oil?
SAFE SKIN APPLICATION:
GUIDE FOR STANDARD DILUTION OF ESSENTIAL OILS:
Adults ~15 drops EO in 30 mls or 1 ounce carrier oil
Children age 18 ~ 10 drops EO in 30 mls or 1 ounce carrier oil
Children age 10-18 ~ 6-9 drops EO in 30 mls or 1 ounce carrier oil
5-10 years age ~ 5 drops EO in 30 mls or 1 ounce carrier oil
4 year age, elderly & infirm ~ 4 drops EO in 30 mls or 1 ounce carrier oil
3 year age ~ 3 drops EO in 30 mls or 1 ounce carrier oil
2 year age ~ 2 drops EO in 30 mls or 1 ounce carrier oil
Newborn - 2 years age ~ 1 drop in 30 mls or 1 ounce carrier oil
Please use caution in applying essential oils to broken skin as this can cause severe irritation and may lead to an immune system reaction known as “sensitization.”
Keep essential oils out of reach of children. Handle and care for your essentials oils as you would any product for therapeutic use. When using essential oils in dilution with your child if they give any indication the aroma is too strong or there is any skin sensitivity please dilute your essential oils further.
Frequency of Use - Essential Oils are very concentrated! As with herbs the general rule for frequency of use is 3 weeks on and 1 week off or 5 days on and 2 days off. Continual use of an essential oil or aromatic remedy may result in your developing a tolerance to its effect so that it is no longer as effective for promoting the desired therapeutic results.
Direct sunlight and essential oils. Some oils are “photosensitizers” Most common are the cold pressed citrus oils. They should not be used on skin that will be exposed to sunlight, or ultraviolet light for 12-24 hours as this may increase your chance of sunburn and cause uneven pigmentation to the skin (Berloque Dermatitis).
Essential oils rich in menthol (such as peppermint) should not be used on the throat or neck area of children under 30 months of age. Please note: menthol is found in high concentrations of many over the counter pharmaceutical vapor rubs in common use for congestion.
Keep essential oils away from eye area and do not put into ears.
Pregnant women avoid using wild tansy and oils containing constituents with hormone-like activity, such as clary sage, sage, geranium, jasmine, juniper, peppermint, rose, rosemary, and fennel. If you do want to use these oils while you are pregnant please consult a qualified professional Aromatherapist, as some can be especially beneficial in certain situations.
Epileptics and people with high blood pressure should consult their health care professional before using essential oils. Avoid hyssop, fennel, and wild tansy oils.
You may wish to skin test a small area first if you suffer from hay fever or allergies. Skin tests should always be done for very young children and the elderly.
SKIN TEST: Apply pure essential oil in a weak dilution with a carrier oil on a cotton swab and lightly touch the skin in an area either under your arm, inside of your elbow, back of your knee or wrist. Cover the area with a Band-Aid and leave the area unwashed for twenty-four hours. If there is any reaction such as itching or redness you may wish to temporarily discontinue using the oil and start an internal cleansing program before resuming use of essential oils. Essential oils can react with toxins built up in the body from chemicals in food, water and work environment.
Exercise caution when applying essential oils to skin that has been exposed to cosmetics, personal care products, soaps and cleansers containing synthetic chemicals. Some of them - especially petroleum-based chemicals - can penetrate and remain in the skin and fatty tissues for days or even weeks. Essential oils may react with such chemicals and cause skin irritation, nausea, headaches or other uncomfortable effects.
Especial care should be taken when using "hot" oils! Always use "hot" oils in extremely weak dilution of less than one percent for skin application.
Commonly used "hot" essential oils known to have the potential to cause, skin irritation, include: basil (Ocimum basilicum), bergamot (Citrus bergamia), birch (Betula lenta), black pepper (Piper nigrum), cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum), clove (Eugenia aromatica), ginger (Zingiber officinale), expressed (cold pressed from peel) oils of lime, lemon, orange and grapefruit (Citrus limetta, limonum, sinensis and paradisi), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citrates), oregano (Origanum compactum), Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris), Siberian, balsam or silver fir (Abies siberica, alba, balsamea), thyme (Thymus vulgaris), wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) and in some cases, tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), ylang ylang (Cananga odorata) and peppermint (Mentha piperita).
If any of these essential oils is applied in a weak dilution on the skin and a hot, red irritation occurs this is the result of a burn to the skin that requires immediate attention. Always have a vegetable carrier oil like Pure Light Coconut Oil or Jojoba available to apply onto the skin in such cases!
Applying a carrier oil will have an immediate effect of calming the skin irritation. Do not wash or rinse the area with water as this will drive the essential oils further into the skin and increase, not diminish discomfort.
Essential oils are flammable. Please keep them out of the way of fire hazards.

Detoxifying & Healing Bath & Foot Soak
Detoxifying and Healing Bath:
Set the mood for relaxation and healing by lighting a candle or candles. Put on your favorite, soul soothing music, or just listen to the water as it cascades into your bath. Add 5-8 drops of Cypress pure essential oil (or other detoxifying pure essential oil, or blend) to 1-4 cups of sea salt in a bowl, stir this blend of salt and cypress oil briefly. Your sea salts will act as a carrier for dispersing your oils into your warm bath water.
Add this mixture to your bath just before stepping in.
Fill the bath up to your neck, and allow yourself to relax deeply. Soak for 15-20 minutes, or until the waters cool. During this time imagine any toxins, or negative emotion being drawn out, and cleansed completely from your body and mind.
Please Note: Natural sea salts are rich in minerals and charged with electrical and healing properties that you can especially benefit from in a warm bath. A sea salt bath with pure essential oils is an effective way to cleanse your chakras and auric energy field. You can purchase natural sea salt in your local health-food store in the spice section.
At the end of your soak, imagine any toxins, or negative emotion that have been cleansed from your body and mind going down the drain. Breathe deeply as you feel renewed in your body, mind, and soul, and give thanks.
Conclude with an invigorating shower, using your favorite shampoo and soap. Allow yourself to luxuriate, and pamper yourself with good feelings of self love and appreciation. See yourself bathed in a pink glow of light and love. Dry off with a big fluffy towel, and continue to relax as long as you like, listen to your favorite music, read poetry, write in your journal. Do whatever feels most perfect for you in this moment!
Detoxifying & Healing Foot Soak:
You can achieve outstanding results for detoxifying and healing your body, mind, and soul with a relaxing and rejuvenating foot soak (hot or cold as desired).
Disperse one or two drops of an essential oil, or blend of your choice in a basin of water by blending them first with a teaspoon of sea salt, honey, cream, or jojoba oil and then thoroughly mixing them into your foot bath. Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes time, or until the waters begin to become tepid to the touch.
May you come to know aromatherapy as a wonderful friend, you can rely on for unconditional love, support, and healing. All my love, KG
Please Note: There are many cheap, synthetic copies of essential oils available, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. Synthetic derivatives although much less expensive will never give you the desired results for therapeutic benefit and may even create adverse side effects such as allergic reactions. To achieve truly remarkable results for one's health and well-being essential oils must be absolutely pure and unadulterated. For best results purchase only premium quality essential oils. To insure a superior aroma experience please always choose essential oils that are guaranteed to be organically grown, and GC/MS tested for purity and pesticide free.
You receive six FREE aromatherapy publications about using pure essential oils as a gift when you purchase PurePlant Essentials Organic Aromatherapy Products.

Master Cleanser with Pure Essential Oils
A traditional drink used for cleansing the body of toxins
I first began using the Master Cleanser in 1980 when I was first introduced into the world of fasting for longevity and health. At the time I was living in an intentional community, Madre Grande Monastery, which was situated in a high desert valley about an hour outside of San Diego, California. Madre Grande Monastery offered a very alternative lifestyle experience, including cleansing, fasting, and various herbal drinks of which the Master Cleanser was one. The basic Master Cleanser recipe is simply a combination of freshly squeezed lemon juice, red cayenne pepper, and maple syrup combined in pure fresh water. Enjoy!
BENEFITS MAY INCLUDE:
1) Cleansing your liver, gall bladder, kidneys, digestive and elimination systems 2) Eliminating cellular waste and relieving congestion in the areas surrounding your muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues.
3) Dissolving and eliminating toxins, cellular debris, and lymphatic congestion from your body.
4) Purifying your blood and enhancing its flow through your circulatory system.
5) Purifying all of your digestive organs and systems, as well your cells, glands, organs, and ducts.
6) Relieving congestion and irritating pressure on your nerve, lymph, and circulatory systems.
7) Fasting on the Master Cleanser for 1-2 days a month while following a regimen of cleansing and detoxifying with pure essential oils is helpful for renewing your Body, Mind and Soul.
MASTER CLEANSER RECIPE
8 TBSP freshly squeezed lemon juice (room temp or warm)
4 TBSP pure maple syrup

Your meridians are the channels through which your emotions flow. The natural and free flow of life force energy (your e-motions - energy in motion) coursing through your meridians ensures your health and longevity. While blocked or suppressed emotions result in clogged meridian channels and imbalances of health. Essential oils help restore the flow of chi through your meridians.
